Michael Dukes has announced the launch of Peninsula Radio Group Inc., a family-owned media company serving the Alaska Peninsula. Dukes and his wife Terri acquired the 5-station group from Peninsula Communications Inc. Dukes is a third-generation Alaskan and self-proclaimed radio aficionado since the age of 16.
Peninsula Radio Group's 5-stations on the Kenai Peninsula includes KWVV (104.9 K-WAVE, Alaska's Alternative), Country KPEN (CHET FM), Classic Hits KXBA (K-BAY), and News/Talk KGTL & KPEN-AM. Following a comprehensive overhaul of broadcast, automation, and traffic systems, all the stations were relaunched on January 1st. The family-run venture sees Michael as the chief broadcaster, Terri managing traffic and accounting, daughters Maggie and Emily handling traffic coordination and news/social media, respectively, and son Xander taking the reins of production management and on-air talent. |
From the beggining |
Where we are now |
Michael Dukes is a 3rd generation Alaskan, the great-grandson of a Sourdough Goldminer who staked his claim in Interior Alaska during the Goldrush. He’s been a commercial fisherman, machine operator, vacuum cleaner salesman, tow truck driver, construction worker, underwater photographer, internet geek, taxi cab driver. But he always seemed to return to his first love, which is broadcast radio, where he started at the tender age of 16. After nearly 40 years in radio, he decided to be his own boss.
Terri Dukes spent a good part of her late teens working in various parts of radio, from on-air to advertising sales. In fact, Terri & Michael worked together as Advertising Executives, shortly after being married. Later she worked as a traffic assistant in Fairbanks. |
Michael and his wife Terri created Peninsula Radio Group Inc in June of last year and purchased a 5 station group on the Alaska Peninsula from Peninsula Communications Inc. After a full revitalization of broadcast, automation and traffic systems they relaunched these stations on January 1st. The stations and associated translators cover an area the size of some small states (stretching over 600 miles) and offer listeners a great variety of local information, news and entertainment.
This endeavor is a true family affair, with Michael being the chief broadcaster, his wife Terri as Traffic/Accounting Manager, his daughters Maggie as Traffic Coordinator and Emily as News/Social Media Coordinator and his son Xander as Production Manager and talent as well as his oldest son Tim providing Voiceover. |
Radio by Alaskans... for Alaskans. Our family is dedicated to being an integral part of the community and to use the Radio Station to bring us all closer together.
